Joey Harrigan went out at even par and came in one sho5 over and the senior sits in a tie for 18th place at the Golfweek Division III Invitational taking place at the Raven Golf Club. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is one of 24 teams participating in the elite event that has 120 golfers.
Harrigan managed birdies on holes No. 1 and No. 3 to jump out to a quick two-under, but gave strokes back at No. 4 (bogey) and No. 5 (double) before a birdie-2 on No. 8 got him back to even. The back nine started with a double on No. 10 and a bogey on No. 12, but his fourth birdie of the day (No. 15) pulled him to +2. He followed with a birdie-4 on No. 17. Harrigan and his +1, 72 is tied with two others, all of whom are one shot from seventh place.
Jacob Lindsay, a freshman, had three birdies during his round, including a three on No. 18 that gave him a +6, 77. He was +3 on the front and the back and sits in a tie for 71st place.
Sophomore
Matt Buckley battled back from a +7, 42 on the front nine to shoot +4, 40 on the back for a first day total of +11.
As a team, the Engineers are 24th with a team total of 315. They one stroke behind Trinity. Emory, the No. 3 team according to the latest GCAA National Poll, leads the tournament with a +3, 287, followed by Hampden-Sydney (+6, 290), No. 1 Methodist (+9, 292), No. 20 Christopher Newport (+11, 295) and No. 10 Oglethorpe (+11, 295). Caleb Kimbrough of Averett leads the race for medalist with a -4, 67.
Action continues with 36 holes on Monday and concludes with 18 more on Tuesday.
