Women's Hockey Drops Series Opener to SCSU

Huskies score game's final four goals in 4-1 victory

TROY, N.Y.  – Sophomore Emma Gentry scored a pair of goals to lead the St. Cloud State University women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Friday afternoon at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Huskies improve to 5-7-1 overall, while the Engineers drop to 5-11-0.

Following a scoreless first period in which RPI held a 16-10 shot advantage, senior Maddy Peterson (Princeton, MN / Princeton High School) snapped home a shot from the high shot at 4:42 of the second. Classmate Lilli Friis-Hansen (Lyngby, Denmark / Gentofte) claimed the lone assist on Peterson's second goal of the season.

St. Cloud State netted the equalizer at 6:46 of the middle frame, when Gentry (Apena, MI) tallied, with assists to senior McKenna Wesloh (Zimmerman, MN) and junior Taylor Lind (Shaunovan, SK).

The Huskies then took the lead for good at 1:34 of the third. Senior Jenniina Nylund (Pietarsaari, Finland) saw her shot tip off the bottom of the crossbar, but Lind was there to push the puck across the line for her third goal of the year. Sophomore Adela Skrdlova (Trebic, Czech Republic) earned the secondary helper on the go-ahead marker.

Gentry added an insurance goal at 10:18 of the third, dangling through the left circle and lifting a shot inside the right post for her second of the game and team-leading eighth of the season. Sophomore Mackenzie Bourgerie (St. Michael, MN) made a nice pass to set up the play and earn the primary helper.

Nylund then capped the scoring at 17:22, with junior Klara Hymlarova (Opava, Czech Republic) claiming the assist.

Graduate student Emma Polusny (Mound, MN) made 33 saves to earn the win between the pipes, while RPI junior Amanda Rampado (Stoney Creek, BC / Stoney Creek) had 31 at the other end of the ice.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon for game two of the series. Puck drop is set for 3pm.
