SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield College women's basketball team scored 45 first half points and finished the game with a 50.8% shooting percentage while holding Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to 23.2% in a 73-38 win over the Engineers in the first game of the season for both schools.
The Pride connected on 9 of 15 (60%) field goals in the first quarter to jump out to a 23-8 lead after the opening 15 minutes. The second quarter was a 22-point frame for Springfield, which led 45-19 at the break.Â
Sidney Wentland led the home team with 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting, along with eight rebounds and five assists. Sam Hourihan added 14 points on 5 of 7 success from the field with a game-high nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Lolo Reynolds was RPI's high scorer with nine points to go with seven rebounds.
Heather Converse had eight points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Engineers, who are back in action on Wednesday at John Jay (6pm).
