CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -
Colleen Whittaker and Tony Min both registered the top finishes for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) swimming & diving teams on the second day of the three-day MIT Invite as they both placed fifth in the 200 butterfly in their respective meets. Whittaker, a freshman, touched the wall in 2:06.80 in the 26-competitor event, while Min, a junior, reached in 1:51.27. There were 19 swimmers in the men's race.
Senior
Megan Beaulieu finished sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.12 and was joined in the top 10 in the event by
Alyssa Cahill, a junior who was ninth of 44 with a time of 59.51.
Also sixth was a women's 400 medley relay team, which combined for a time of 3:58.00. The men's top 400 medley relay team earned a 10th place finish with a second squad coming in 11th place.
Shannon Brown, a freshman, was Rensselaer's top competitor in the 200 freestyle, coming in seventh place with a time of 1:55.56. Five teammates also swam in the event, which had a total of 55 swimmers.
Also registering a seventh place finish was junior
Ola Nawrocki in the 100 breaststroke, which she swam in 1:06.46 to outdistance 43 others.
Daniel Savidge was eighth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:14.87. A sophomore, Savidge was first among six RPI swimmers in the event, each of whom finished in places eighth thru 13th. Freshman Jake Fassora (4:16.50) was ninth and sophomore Michael Lee (4:17.74) was tenth.
The men's 200 free relay team was eighth overall and the women's was 12th.
Tufts leads the women's meet with 912 points, followed by MIT's 878 and Wheaton's 460. Rensselaer has 326 points.
MIT's men's team is in first place with 1004 points, followed by Tufts (925), RPI (431), Wheaton (252) and Keene State (135).
