Senior Celebration Series: Men's Swim & Dive

At Rensselaer, we are proud to recognize the student-athletes who are members of the Class of 2021. We thank them for their hard work, dedication and tremendous efforts in representing the Institute in a first-class manner academically and athletically. We wish them well in all their future endeavors.

Favorite RPI Athletics Memory: Winning Liberty Leagues and setting two individual records!

What Makes Rensselaer So Special: RPI allowed athletes to put academics first and enjoy their sports rather than tie them to it, which also allowed for me to be involved in many other activities and be a well-rounded student-athlete.

Post-Graduation Plans: I will be attending the University of Texas to earn my Master's in Aerospace Engineering.

WHAT OTHERS SAY:

  • Harrison is a role model on the team and I can only hope to be on the record board as much as him. There is no one better person to cheer super loud at Liberty Leagues with.
  • Harrison is one of the most determined teammates I’ve ever had, consistently exceeding expectations and breaking records and I’m so proud to have gotten the chance to compete with him. He is a great motivator for the team and the best cheerleader out there. His encouragement and positive attitude is very much appreciated.
  • Harrison stepped up and swam fast when the team needed him the most. His teammates could always depend on him for encouragement as well as loudly cheering on his teammates to the extreme.

Favorite RPI Athletics Memory: Training trip to Puerto Rico in January 2020 (earthquake included).

What Makes Rensselaer So Special: The ability to take the otherwise negative energy from stress of school, athletics and other clubs and turn it into something that bonds people together.

Post-Graduation Plans: Short-term co-op with Sanofi Genzyme and then Johns Hopkins University starting Fall 2021 for graduate school pursuing Engineering Management degree.

  • Chris Li is such a selfless friend and teammate. People love being around him because of his great energy and positive attitude.
  • From a coach: Chris’s dedication to RPI Swimming and the team is unmatched. In season or out, he always brought his ‘A’ game and put in the work to make both himself and the team better. No matter what he had on his own plate, Chris always found the time and energy to support and cheer for his teammates.

Favorite RPI Athletics Memory: Some of my most fond memories are from celebrating our team's victories at the Liberty League Championships. Seeing a season's worth of hard work and dedication pay off by having the entire men's team standing on the podium holding up the Liberty League plaque is truly gratifying. I am also thankful for the many lifelong friendships I have developed through the team and the opportunities swimming has provided me.

What Makes Rensselaer So Special: Rensselaer has afforded me many research opportunities and provided a rigorous academic environment that has made me well prepared for my future studies in medical school. I have also been able to pursue my passion for swimming and be a part of a well-connected group of likeminded individuals on the swim & dive team.

Post-Graduation Plans: I will be attending Albany Medical College where I will be pursuing my M.D. I will also be continuing my research into cancer cell migration within confined spaces.

  • Nicos has always been a responsible and strong team captain. He looks out for each of his teammates and encourages the best from each and every one of them. He was always willing to stay after practice, either to work on one of his events, or help a teammate with theirs.

WHAT OTHERS SAY:

  • Steven is a great teammate because he is hard working, encouraging and positive. During difficult practices there is no one I’d rather train with than Steven.
  • Steven was an amazing teammate in and out of the pool. Whether he was talking about his love of cars, telling stories of mountain biking or just goofing off after practice, there was never a dull moment with him!
  • From a coach:  Steven is best known by his teammates as welcoming and motivating. He is always joyful and fun at practice. He makes sure to get a laugh in with anyone in his lane. With his ambition and passion, the sky’s the limit.

I have been the captain of the team for the past two seasons which has afforded me the opportunity to guide my younger teammates to success in and out of the pool. I am proud to have won Liberty Leagues in all three seasons of competition and only lose one dual meet over that span. I am also proud to see my teammates' growth and I look forward to seeing the team continue the legacy of success in the coming years. - Nicos Prokopiou '21
