SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team traveled to Union College for a dual meet and the Engineers swept the Dutchwomen, winning all 16 events on their way to a 211-67 victory. RPI is now 5-1 in 2021-22, while Union drops to 1-3.
Highlighting the meet for Rensselaer were four individuals who had multiple victories and wins by both relay teams. The 200 medley squad of
Shannon Brown,
Ola Nawrocki,
Colleen Whittaker and
Gabriela Crother-Collado began the day with an effort of 1:54.83.
Crother-Collado, the anchor of the relay, went on to win the 200 freestyle in 2:04.60 and the 100 free in 55.68 before leading off for the triumphant 400 relay team (3:47.19), which won by 20 seconds.
Brown was also on the 400 relay after she won the 50 freestyle in 25.95 and the 200 backstroke in 2:13.14. Nawrocki also had two individual victories, capturing the 100 breastroke by five seconds (1:08.86 - 1:13.54) and the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.18, reaching the wall just ahead of Whittaker (2:34.28).
Megan Beaulieu, who swam on the 400 free relay, had wins in two different events, winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.12 and the 100 butterfly in 1:03.68. She also swam in the 100 freestyle (57.77), finishing second to Crother-Collado.
Six others had wins for the Engineers, including divers
Patricia Christensen (1-meter) and
Amy Carosi (3-meter).
RPI is back in the pool for competition on Saturday when the Engineers travel to Skidmore (1pm).
