NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Elle Hatje recorded a goal and an assist to lead the eighth-ranked Yale University women's hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Tuesday night at Ingalls Rink. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 15-4-1 overall (9-3-1 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 8-16-0 (5-10-0 ECAC Hockey).
A tightly contested opening period was punctuated by the game's first goal, which came with only 22 seconds remaining. Tess Dettling set up Grace Lee for the tally that gave the hosts a 1-0 lead. Olivia Muhn was credited with the secondary helper on the play.
Both teams had chances in the second period, but goaltenders
Amanda Rampado from RPI and Pia Dukaric of Yale were both equal to the task. Yale took a 21-10 shot advantage into the third.
In the final frame, Rebecca Vanstone doubled the Bulldogs lead at 13:46, sticking home the rebound of a shot from Hartje on the power play. Claire Daulton also had an assist on the tally.
Hartje then buried Yale's second power play marker of the night on a shot from the middle of the slot, with helpers going to Dalton and Emma Seitz.
Dukaric finished with 17 saves for her third shutout of the year, while Rampado had 32 stops at the other end of the ice.
Julia Blitz and
Marah Wagner each registered three shots to lead the Engineers offensively.
The Engineers are back in action on Saturday, when they take on Union College in the Mayor's Cup at MVP Arena in Albany (11am). Yale plays a home-and-home with Brown this weekend, beginning in Providence on Friday.
