TROY, N.Y. – Ithaca College broke out to a 14-point lead after the first quarter and then held Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to three points in the second frame and the Bombers went on to defeat the Engineers 79-36 in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Arena.
Ithaca, which is now 15-3 overall and 10-1 in the conference, scored the first eight points of the game and 10 of the first 12 before Rensselaer's
Nicole DaPra sunk a three-pointer to pull the home team to within 10-5. The Bombers came back with the next two hoops and the teams traded baskets before DaPra hit another from long distance to make it 18-12 just past the midway point. Ithaca countered by closing the quarter on a 12-4 run for a 30-16 advantage.
The Bombers extended their lead by 20 points in the second quarter, outscoring RPI 23-3. They made 8 of 13 shots from the field, including 2 of 3 three-pointers, while holding the Engineers to 1 of 11 shooting. Ithaca had six assists and 10 rebounds with 20 of their points coming from players off the bench.
The Bombers, who outscored the Engineers by nine points in the second half, had balanced attack that included 16 players scoring at least one point and everyone playing at least five minutes. Megan Yawman led Ithaca with nine points, while Natalie Smith scored eight.
Ashlyn O'Neil had 10 points in 31 minutes and
Lolo Reynolds scored nine in 34 minutes for RPI, which is now 3-12 and 2-8.
The Engineers are back in action on Tuesday at Union College (5:30pm), while the Bombers face the Dutchwomen on Friday at 5:30pm.
