TROY, N.Y. - TROY, N.Y. – Senior Rory Millar scored in the 88th minute to break a scoreless tie and lead the Skidmore College men's soccer team to a 1-0 road victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds improve to 5-1-3 and 2-0-1 in the Liberty League. RPI drops to 3-4-3 and 1-1-1.
A long throw in from the hands of Max Heberlein deflected off a pair of heads in the RPI box out towards Millar, who played the volley and beat Engineers goalkeeper
Colin Such from 24 yards out inside the left post on a bounce.
Such, making his second start of the season, finished with a pair of saves, while Bobby Stratts posted his second consecutive clean sheet with one 21st-minute save.
The game was physical throughout with RPI being called for 15 fouls and five cautions. The Thoroughbreds were whistled for six fouls and a pair of yellow cards.
It is the seventh consecutive meeting with RPI that was decided by one or fewer goals. Skidmore, which edged Rensselaer in corner kicks (4-1) on Saturday, is now 2-4-2 over that nine-year span.
