TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams began their 2022-23 seasons by hosting dual meets against RIT and the visitors were victorious in both. The Tigers women won 164-135, while the men triumphed 194-104.
For the Engineers, junior Daniel Savidge won the three events in which he was entered. He was first in the 1000 freestyle by more than 10 seconds (10:04.22 - 10:16.96), won the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:59.11 and was first in the 200 IM (1:59.70).
Tony Min, a senior, also had multiple victories as he won the 100 and 200 butterfly.Â
Graduate student
Megan Beaulieu won the women's 100 and 200 backstroke, while sophomore
Shannon Brown was first in both the 50 free and 100 free.
RPI won off of both diving boards on the women's side with Patricia winning from three meters with 213.00 points, clipping the runner-up's 211.12. From the 1-meter,
Ella Simpson posted a score of 219.15 points, which was about five better than the runner-up's 214.65, to win in her collegiate debut.
Also earning a victory in her first career meet wasÂ
Emma Wojnarowski, who won the 1000 freestyle.
The Engineers return to competition on October 29 at Ithaca College.
