Women's Soccer Ties With Dutchwomen, 1-1

TROY, N.Y. - Gwen Barnes scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team improved to 3-1-2 in its last six games after tying Union College 1-1 in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Stadium.

The Engineers took the lead in the 28th minute when Tulsi Pari intercepted a clearing attempt and kicked the ball toward goal. Barnes ran into it about seven yards out and while on the run, flicked a right-footed shot into the right corner of the goal.

RPI took five shots in the half and four found their way on frame. Union took five shots with two making it on goal.

Union evened things up in in the 70th minute. Following an Engineers foul, Union was awarded a free kick. Junior Cassidy Careccia took the free kick following a designed play from Union. She sent a rocket of a shot into the top right corner from about 25 yards out.

RPI out shot Union 6-4 in the game.

Megan Wampner made three saves for the home team, while Abby Mitty made three saves in the opening stanza for Union, which got two second half saves from Rachel Berliner.
