Story Links

DELHI, N.Y. - Senior Heather Converse had a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds, Ashlyn O'Neil scored 13 points, and Nicole DaPra grabbed 11 rebounds as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team won its third straight game, 78-38 at SUNY Delhi. RPI is now 3-3, while the Broncos fall to 1-4.

After falling behind 8-3 in the first 4:30 of the contest, RPI went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 8-8 and then countered a three-pointer by Delhi's Jayda Allen by scoring the final nine points of the quarter for a 17-11 lead. Five of those points came from O'Neil while Converse and Molly Libby had two points apiece.

Seven straight points to open the second quarter made it a 16-0 stretch and a 22-11 lead just a minute in and the lead remained double digits the rest of the game. The Engineers got it to as many as 22 points (42-20) on a jumper by Hannah McGrath with under a minute to go before the break and continued to build on its advantage for the rest of the contest.

Converse led all players in points, going 7 of 11 from the field and 7 of 8 from the free throw line, and rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. She also blocked two shots in 25 minutes of action. O'Neil, the reigning Liberty League Performer of the Week, made six shots with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while McGrath finished with 10 points on 5 of 8 shooting. DaPra now has four games of double-digit rebounds and averages 10.3 through six games. As a team, the Engineers held a 52-25 edge in caroms.

Allen led the Broncos with 13 points and seven rebounds. She also had four assists.

RPI's next game will be its first Liberty League contest as it travels to William Smith and RIT in the first weekend of December. Delhi is back in action at Wells on November 29.
