Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College men's basketball team shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half and the No. 5 Ephs defeated No. 19 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 58-40 in a non-league game at Chandler Gymnasium. Williams improves to 6-0, while the Engineers drop to 5-1.
Declan Porter led the way for the home team with 13 points, while
Avery Eugster scored 11 for RPI. Porter, who added five rebounds, was joined in double figures by Brandon Roughley, who had 11 points and six rebounds in 17 minutes. Cole Prowitt-Smith had a game-high 10 rebounds, along with eight points.Â
Williams held a 23-17 lead after a first half that started slowly on offense for both teams. Following a free throw by Spencer Spivy that put the Ephs up 1-0 just 22 seconds into the game, neither team scored until Porter made a three-pointer at 15:33 for a 4-0 advantage. Eugster answered with a three on the other end but Williams countered with a 7-0 run to go ahead 11-3 with 11:53 to play. The home team eventually made it an 18-8 margin before a 9-0 streak pulled RPI to within a point with 2:32 left in the first half. Four different players scored, including a three-pointer from

The Engineers held Williams to 7 of 29 shooting (24.1%), including 3 of 15 (20%) from behind the arc, in the first half, though Rensselaer made just 6 of 29 shots (20.7%) from the floor with 2 of 13 (15.4%) being from three point range.
The second half saw RPI improve as it connected on 9 of 32 shots (28.1%) with 3 of 11 (27.3%) from long range, but Williams hit on 12 of 20 attempts (60%) with only four shots (1 of 4) coming from distance.
The Ephs scored the first eight points of the second half for a 31-17 lead before Fredericks put in a layup to cut the margin by two four minutes into the frame. Williams held a double digit advantage the rest of the half to keep its unbeaten record intact.
