TROY, N.Y. - ECAC Hockey has announced its men's monthly award winners and two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been recognized. Junior forward
Jakob Lee has been chosen as the Player of the Month for October, while sophomore
Jack Watson garnered Goalie of the Month. They have helped the Engineers to a 5-2-0 record to start the 2022-23 campaign.
Lee (Owen Sound, ON / Merrimack College) is second on the Engineers in goals (3) but first in assists (6) and points (9) with 13 shots. Three of his goals have come on the power play - a team-high - and one was a game-winner. He had at least one goal in three games and an assist-or-more in three. His power play goals came in three separate contests.
The conference Player of the Week once, Lee is tied for the league lead in points and power play goals and ranks fourth in assists. He is fifth in goals.
Watson (Toronto, ON / Coquitlam Express) has started all seven games and has a 5-2-0 record with a 2.64 goals against average and a .902 save percentage. He has one shutout and five of the 18 goals he has allowed came on the power play.
He has at least 30 saves in two games with a season-high 37 in a 3-2 overtime win over Mercyhurst College in the second game of the season. His shutout included 23 saves against Long Island University. Watson was the league's MAC Goaltender of the Week after his performance against the Sharks and Army West Point (14 saves) on October 14-15.
The Engineers are back in action this weekend when they play at St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both games begin at 7pm.
