ITHACA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team saw its five consecutive seasons run of Liberty League Championships come to an end as the Engineers placed third of nine schools at the four-day conference meet that was hosted by Ithaca College. RPI compiled 1,296 points to place third behind Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), which had 1,698 points, and the host Bombers, who had 1,587. Vassar College was in fourth with 828 points.

Rensselaer started Saturday's final by placing four swimmers in the top eight of the 1650 freestyle. Daniel Savidge was fourth in 16:35.81, Ethan Gadbois was fifth in 16:39.89, Matthew Youngbar was seventh in 16:42.06 and Andy Palmer was eighth in 16:44.16. No other school had more than one individual in the top eight of that event.

The Engineers also had multiple top finishers in the 200 breaststroke with Anthony Acciani placing third in 2:06.02 and Nicholas Stefanidis finishing sixth in 2:07.83.

Mike Dowd tied for fourth place in the 100 free (46.85) and the 400 free relay team was third in the A final with a time of 3:08.27. That group included Jake Fassora, Tony Min, Fernando Gomez Fischer and Dowd.

Rensselaer was the meet champion from 2015-16 to 2019-20, defending its crown four times. (The 2020-21 season did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
