Women's Basketball Season Ends With Road Loss

GENEVA, N.Y. - Olivia Parisi, Brooke Jarvis and Lauren DeVaney each had double-doubles, combining for 62 points and 38 rebounds, and the William Smith College women's basketball team jumped out to a 22-11 lead after the first quarter on its way to defeating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 85-51 in the season finale for both teams. The Herons close the campaign with an 8-17 overall record with a 7-11 Liberty League mark, while the Engineers conclude at 5-18 and 4-14. 

Parisi, a senior forward, connected on 7 of 19 shots from the floor and 10 of 11 from the free throw line for 24 points, while pulling down 12 rebounds in 32 minutes. Jarvis, a sophomore guard, scored 21 points, including 8 for 8 from the foul line, with 11 rebounds in 28 minutes and DeVaney, a junior forward, had 17 points with 15 boards, including nine on the offensive glass, and six assists while also playing 28 minutes. She made all six of her attempts from the charity strip for the Herons, who were 25 of 26 as a team.

Senior Emily Vallee scored a game-high eight points for RPI, which got seven points from three different players. Nicole DaPra registered seven points and eight rebounds and Heather Converse had eight rebounds with six points.

The Herons scored the first nine points of the game and 11 of the first 13 to take control early. Parisi had six points in that stretch and Kerstin Kelly had the other five. DaPra cut the deficit to five points with a basket from long range and Lolo Reynolds scored on a jumper to make it 11-7 with four minutes to play. William Smith closed the frame on a 12-4 run for an 11-point lead after the first 10 minutes. 

A 12-2 run to open the second quarter put the Herons ahead 34-13 with 5:33 to go in the first half and the margin remained near 20 points the rest of the stanza. William Smith went on to outscore the Engineers by six in the third quarter (22-16) and seven in the fourth (23-16).
