Women's Hockey Falls on Senior Day

Big Green build three-goal lead before holding off Engineers, 3-1

TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Maggie Emerson made 24 saves to lead the Dartmouth College women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Friday afternoon at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Big Green conclude their season at 9-19-1 (3-18-1 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers finish 9-23-0 (5-17-0 ECAC Hockey).

Sophomore Annie King (Regina, SK / Athol Murray of Notre Dame) got the scoring started for the visitors at 12:50 of the opening period, firing a shot from the right point that made its way through a screen and past RPI junior netminder Amanda Rampado (Stoney Creek, ON / Stoney Creek Sabres). The tally, which was King's second of the year, was assisted on by junior Currie Putrah (Fairbault, MN / Shattuck-St. Mary's).

Dartmouth made it 2-0 at 6:17 of the second, when freshman Kenzie Bachelor (Shakopee, MN / Shakopee High School) scored from close range. The lone helper on her fourth goal of the season went to junior Celine Pietraszek (Colorado Springs, CO / Shattuck-St. Mary's).

Less than 30 seconds later, sophomore Tiffany Hill (Dartmouth, NS / St. Paul's School) gave the Big Green a 3-0 advantage, as the puck deflected off of her leg and into the net. An initial shot from senior Givanna Foglia (Tinton Falls, NJ / Shattuck-St. Mary's) was stopped by Rampado, but the puck popped straight up and fell into the middle of the crease, where Hill swung and missed at it, before it caromed in.

RPI drew to within 3-1 at 10:56 of the middle frame on a point shot by sophomore Magdalena Erbenova (Benatky nad Jizerou, Czech Republic). Her first collegiate tally, which was unassisted, made its way from the left point to the right side of the net.

The Engineers turned a number of chances in the final period, but could not beat Emerson (Belmont, MA / Milton Academy) for a second time.

Emerson (8-17-0) recorded 14 saves in the first period and 10 in the second to help the Big Green build its lead. Rampado had 30 stops, including 11 in the first.
