Men's Lacrosse Defeats Bridgewater, 13-11

Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Cooper Urban and Rhys Zoldi both had two goals and two assists and two others notched three points apiece and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team built a six-goal lead before holding off Bridgewater College 13-11 in a non-league, neutral site game at Ace Adams Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The Engineers move to 3-0, while the Eagles fall for the first time and are now 2-1.

After falling behind 3-0, RPI got a goal from Angelo Venuto off a face off and two tallies from Ryan Raftery to tie the game at 3-3 with 4:03 to play in the first quarter. Hunter Becker put Bridgewater ahead 4-3, but RPI scored six of the next seven goals for a 9-5 lead with 2:05 left in the first half. 

Goals by Zoldi (man-up), Connor Glosner and Trey Froehlich made it a 12-6 score before the Eagles notched five of the last six goals. Their last tally came with 3:41 to play but RPI held them without a shot attempt from that point on.

Joining Urban and Zoldi with multiple goals were Raftery (2), Anthony Mazzella (2) and Venuto (2), who won 20 of 26 face offs and had a game-high 15 ground balls. Raftery added an assist, while Alex Ehrenstein scored once with two helpers for the Engineers, who held a 47-31 edge in pickups. 

Ricky Bokavich stopped four shots in the first half for the win, while Jpseph Perry had three in the second. Robbie Noyes made 17 saves on the other end. 

Bridgewater was led offensively by Chris Martel, who had four goals, and Hunter Becker, who tallied twice with four assists. Martel had a game-high 14 shots with eight on goal and four ground balls.

The Engineers play their third straight game away from East Campus Stadium on Wednesday when they travel to the University of Scranton for a non-league contest (4pm). Bridgewater returns to action at home on Wednesday against Chatham University (1pm).
