SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to jump out in front of Skidmore College, but the Thoroughbreds used a late surge to post a 73-64 victory over the Engineers in a Liberty League contest. Skidmore improves to 12-5 overall and 7-5 in the conference, while RPI drops to 3-14 and 2-10.
Trailing 52-50 after the first 30 minutes, the Engineers came out in the fourth quarter and saw
Lolo Reynolds and
Nicole DaPra both hit from long range for a 56-50 advantage just 30 seconds into the frame. The game was back-and-forth for the next three minutes with RPI going ahead 59-58 on a layup from
Heather Converse.
The Thoroughbreds answered with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes for a 66-59 lead.
Ashlyn O'Neil pulled the Engineers to within 66-61 with a jumper at 4:04 and DaPra made it 68-63 with a layup 30 seconds later, but Skidmore scored five of the final six points for the nine-point win.Â
DaPra scored a game-high 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting with 4 of 6 from behind the arc. She also had two rebounds, three assists and a steal in 38 minutes. Converse also played 38 minutes and recorded a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, along with four steals. Reynolds had a dozen points and eight assists in a game-high 39 minutes.
The Thoroughbreds were paced by Cassie Davidson's 16 points, while Julia Blanck scored 10 points with 14 rebounds.
RPI is back on the road on Saturday when it plays at Vassar College in a conference contest at 2pm. Skidmore hosts Ithaca College in a league game on Saturday, also at 2pm.
