TROY, N.Y. – Elle Hartje recorded a goal and an assist to lead the ninth-ranked Yale University women's hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Friday night at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 17-5-1 overall (11-4-1 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 9-18-0 (5-12-0 ECAC Hockey).
Following a scoreless first period in which the visitors held a 12-2 shot advantage, the Bulldogs broke onto the board at 3:42 of the second. Hartje buried a feed from Claire Daulton for the power play tally, with Charlotte Welch picking up the secondary helper on the play.
Both teams had chances as the game moved along, including a breakaway opportunity for
Ellie Kaiser that was stopped by Yale netminder Pia Dukaric.
Already on the power play late in the third, the Engineers lifted junior goaltender
Amanda Rampado for a 6-on-4 advantage, but Tess Dettling was able to take advantage, potting a shorthanded, empty-netter from inside her own blue line. The goal, which came at 18:30 of the third, drew an assist from Hartje.
Just 39 seconds later, Rebecca Foggia scored an empty-net goal of her own to cap the scoring. Emma DeCorby was credited with the lone helper.
Dukaric finished with 18 saves for the shutout, while Ramado had 35 stops, including 13 in the second period alone.
RPI is back in action next weekend, when it travels to Cornell and Colgate. The Bulldogs visit Union tomorrow.
