WINSTON SALEM, N.C. - Senior Jacy Scharlow finished eighth in the women's high jump and junior
Matt Lecky was fifth in the men's 3000 meters, finishes that earned both Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes with National All-America awards at the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's and Men's Indoor Championship at the JDL Fast Track.Â
Scharlow is now a three-time indoor All-America after her efforts on Saturday - the most in school history for a female. She reached 1.64 meters on her second attempt at that height to edge two others. She landed her first attempt at 1.60 meters, while Jerrica Pachl of Linfield needed two tries to eclipse 1.60 meters and thus finished ninth. Abby McPhillips of UC Santa Cruz also reached 1.64 meters, but she did so on three attempts and placed 10th. Jaidyn Apel of Tufts won the event when she was the only competitor to reach 1.76 meters.
In the men's 3000 meters, Lecky ran an 8:18.70 to finish fifth. He started in fifth place through the first 200 meters before moving up into second for the next 400 meters. He dropped back to the middle of the pack at 1800 meters but charged five spaces by the end of the race, helped by a split of 30.737 to get to 2800 meters and then a 29.394 in the final 200 meters. Lecky, who helped RPI's distance medley relay team to seventh place and All-America status on Friday night, was .48 behind Jacob Ridderhoff of Washington U. (8:18.22). Alex Phillip of John Carroll was the winner with a time of 8:16.62.
Competing in the women's 3000 meters was Morgan Lee, a junior who finished 15th overall with a time of 10:01.40. She climbed into 15th at the 2000 meter mark and then advanced to as high as 11th at 2600 meters (38.993). She closed with a 39.663 and was only .08 from 14th place and .25 from 13th. Kassie Parker of Loras won the 3000 meters with a time of 9:43.81.
