Owen Himmer combined to climb 31 spots from day 1 to day 2 and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf team sits in third place after the second day of the three-day Liberty League Tournament being held at the Turning Stone Resort Shenendoah Course. The event, which features seven conference schools, concludes on Sunday with the winning team earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship. The Engineers are the defending champions.
Fraser, a junior, had the largest climb on Saturday as he moved up 17 spots and is now tied for seventh place. He was -2, 70 on the afternoon, highlighted by birdies on Nos. 1, 4, 10, 13 and 18. He had only two bogeys and was -3 through holes five thru 13. Three of his birdies came on par 5s, while the other two were on par 4s. Fraser, who is second on the team, has a two-day total of 149 (79-70) and is tied for seventh (+5, 149).
Teammate
Jacob Lindsay is one stroke ahead of Fraser after a second day score of 75, which included two birdies and 12 pars. He went out even (36) and came in at +3, 39 and has a two-day total of 148 (73-75).
Trent Han, a senior, had a seven stroke improvement to climb to 11th place with a +6, 150. After shooting 77 on Friday, he posted four birdies on Saturday to finish +1, 73 on the day.
Owen Himmer also shaved seven strokes off and has a two-day total of +8, 152 (78-74). He is tied for 15th in the 35-person field.
Robbie Keyes of New York University leads the tournament with a -2, 142 (72-70), good enough for a one stroke lead over Skidmore's Kevin McGough (73-70).
NYU leads the team standings with a +7, 583 (297-286), followed by Skidmore (+13, 589), RPI (+17, 593) and Rochester (+26, 602).
Action resumes on Sunday at noon. Rensselaer's first tee time is 1:10pm.
