GENEVA, Ohio -
Matt Lecky ran a final spilt of 1:01.837 - his best in the NCAA Championship 5000 meters - but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete was held off from moving up in the race and finished in ninth place in the event, which closed out the 2021-22 season.
Lecky opened in front with a 33.364 over the first 200 meters and maintained the lead over the next 1200. After falling back, he moved up 13 spots with a 1:10.854, but then dropped, despite running splits under 1:10.000 the rest of the race.
