ITHACA, N.Y. - Juniors
Alex Mednikova and
Rani Jones both had two victories and two other doubles teams were victorious as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team defeated Union College 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the Liberty League Tournament being held at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University.
RPI earned its 13th win (13-7) to tie the school single season record. It advances to play Skidmore College in the semifinals on Saturday at 5pm. Union concludes with a 5-8 mark.
Mednikova and Jones, the top-ranked team in the region, got things started with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. The tandem ofÂ

Brooke Bauer won by the same score at No. 2 and the third doubles pair of
Krisia Flores Gonzalez and Lorna Flores Gonzales made it 3-0 with an 8-5 triumph.
The two singles matches that clinched the win for the Engineers came from Mednikova at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1) and Jones at No. 3 (6-0, 6-3).
RPI's teams in 2010-11 (13-4) and 2012-13 (13-5) also had 13 victories. Should Rensselaer defeat the Thoroughbreds to set a new school record, it will advance to Sunday's final, which is scheduled for 2pm.
