TROY, N.Y. - For the fifth time in school history and first since 2016, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team has qualified for the NCAA Tournament and will face Wesleyan University in a second round game on Saturday at Christopher Newport University. Game time is 3pm in Newport News, Va.

The Engineers, who are 10-5 and ranked No. 16 in Division III, and the Cardinals, who are 12-5 and No. 13, are two of 10 at-large teams selected to the 38-team field that determines the Division III national champion.

RPI, which is coached by Scott Hackett-Dalgliesh, hosted Amherst College in 2016, a 16-11 loss, and Middlebury College in 2010, a 16-8 second round loss. Rensselaer traveled to Washington College (Md.) in 2000, losing 15-6, and then advanced to the quarterfinals in 2001, defeating SUNY Cortland 9-7 before losing at Nazareth College 15-14.

RPI has one NCAA Championship to its credit, having earned the distinction in 1952 before there was a post-season tournament or NCAA divisions.

This year's team averages 13.20 goals per game, while allowing 11.06. Seniors Connor Glosner (Auburn, NH / Derryfield), Cooper Urban (Glen Mills, PA / Salesianum School) and Trey Froehlich (Austin, TX / Regents School of Austin) lead the attack. Glosner, a midfielder, has team-highs of 30 goals and 37 points, along with 27 ground balls. He has two man-up goals and four caused turnovers. Urban, an attack, is first in assists with 17 and points with 35, while Froehlich, who also plays attack, has 23 goals and 31 points. Three of his tallies have come man-up.

Junior Luke Murphy (Scituate, MA / Kent School) has 31 points (19 goals, 12 assists) in 12 games, while senior Rhys Zoldi (Colorado Springs, CO / Kent Denver School) has 29 (20 goals, 9 assists) in 14 contests.

He has a team-high 141 ground balls, along with 14 goals and seven assists. Junior Devon Boyko (Zionsville, PA / Emmaus), a long-stick midfielder, has played a large role in the Engineers winning 52.9 percent of its face offs (221-418) as a team.

Defensively, RPI has a starting back line of two seniors in Garrett Volley (Glenwood, MD / Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Trevor Tocchet (Pittsburgh, PA / Mt. Lebanon) and a sophomore in Caleb Oswari (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lenape). Oswari is first on the team in caused turnovers with 18 and second in ground balls with 39. Volley is third in pick ups (37) and Boyko is second in caused turnovers (16).

Joseph Perry (Barrington, RI / Moses Brown) has started the last 10 games in goal and has made at least 13 saves in each contest in that span. He had a season-high 23 saves in a 13-12 victory over then No. 1 RIT on April 2. Overall, Perry, a freshman, is 7-5 with a 11.20 goals against average and a .586 save percentage in 15 games.

The Engineers have three common opponents with Wesleyan in Coast Guard, Middlebury and Williams. RPI went 2-1 against those teams, defeating the Cadets at home and the Panthers on the road, while the Cardinals were 3-1, including a loss to the Ephs.

Christopher Newport (16-1), the host of the second and third rounds and currently the No. 1-ranked team, though it lost in its conference championship game, faces the winner of Wednesday's first round game between Sewanee (8-8) and Benedictine (12-6).
