Engineers Drop Saturday Matchup With Bears

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team was defeated by the Brown Bears Saturday night by a final score of 3-0 from Meehan Auditorium. With the loss, RPI falls to 8-14-1 overall and 3-9-0 in ECAC Hockey, while Brown improves to 7-10-2 and 3-7-2 in ECAC Hockey play.

RPI's defense was strong early, as they killed off seven minutes worth of penalties in the first 10 minutes of the game. But, Brown did strike first at the 13:07 mark, as Thomas Manty took advantage of a turnover in the RPI defensive zone, taking a wrist shot past the glove of Carson Cherepak for a 1-0 lead for the Bears.

Brown held a 1-0 lead into the third period until the 4:26 mark of the frame, when James Crossman collected a goal short handed. It became the second unassisted goal of the evening for the Bears, as Crossman took a puck from the neutral zone, and skated in. He then took a wrist shot from the left wing that found the upper left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.

RPI emptied the net late in the third period, and Brown took advantage with an empty net goal from Nathan Plessis. His goal capped the scoring on the evening, as Brown took the 3-0 victory.

Cherepak made 16 saves on the evening for RPI, while Brown goaltender Mathieu Caron made 24 stops in the win.

The Engineers return to the ice next Friday back at home in Houston Field House, as they play host to Clarkson at 7 p.m.
