TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey senior
Ryan Mahshie was announced as a nominee for the prestigious 2023 Hobey Baker Award on Thursday afternoon. He is one of 84 nominees, with the final 10 list of finalists being released at a later date after a round of voting.
The Stoney Creek, Ontario native joins the list of nominees up for vote for this season. He has appeared in 19 games for the Engineers this season, scoring a team-high nine goals and five assists for 14 points. He is a multiple ECAC All-Academic honoree, and has appeared in 73 career games at RPI. Over a three-year career so far, Mahshie has scored 18 goals and 19 assists for 37 career points.
There are four criteria against which nominees for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award are considered:
- Strength of character, on and off the ice
- Contribution to the integrity of the team and outstanding skills in all phases of the game
- Scholastic achievement and sportsmanship
- Compliance with all NCAA rules, including being a full-time student in an accredited college or university and completing 50 percent or more of the season
