ITHACA, NY – Senior goaltender
Amanda Rampado made 29 saves on the afternoon as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team was defeated by the No. 10 Cornell Big Red by a 1-0 final score from Lynah Rink. With the loss, RPi moves to a 5-16-1 overall record and 1-9-1 in ECAC Hockey play. Cornell improves to 9-5-2 and 7-2-1 in ECAC Hockey.
It appeared RPI scored less than three minutes in before the play was called back for offsides, and both sides played to a scoreless first period.
Cornell rang the bell to open the scoring in the second period, as Leah MacSween found the back of the net. A long stretch pass from the Big Red defensive zone from Izzy Daniel found Lily Delianedis just in front of the RPI blue line on the other side of the ice. Delianedis walked it over the blue line in a 2-on-1 situation, and found MacSween who tossed it in the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Big Red carried the 1-0 lead into the third period, where it stayed through the final horn. Despite a late push from the Engineers, Cornell hung on for the win.
Rampado had a big first period, making 14 of her 29 saves. Cornell goaltender Deanna Fraser made 14 saves on the evening – with eight coming in the final period.
Marah Wagner led the team with three shots on net, while
Taylor Larsen and
Julia Blitz each had a pair of shots on their resume on the afternoon as well.
RPI returns to the ice next week on Friday, January 13 at 6 p.m. when they make their first appearance back at the Houston Field House against Clarkson.
