Hardy Collects OT Winner in WHKY Comeback Win

HANOVER, N.H. – Graduate student Isabelle Hardy rifled in an overtime winner for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team on Friday evening, as the Engineers defeated Dartmouth by a 5-4 final score for their first ECAC Hockey victory of the season.

Freshman Andrea Trnková scored twice – including the equalizer with the goalie pulled with 92 seconds to play in regulation to force the overtime period. Ellie Kaiser and Taylor Larsen also scored and collected assists for RPI, while Georgia Bailey and Marah Wagner each tallied two assists apiece. Goaltender Amanda Rampado made 35 saves in the victory for RPI.

Dartmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Jenna Donohue scored twice in the opening period, followed by a goal from Shae Messner on the power play early in the second period at the 6:25 mark. However, that spurred a 3-0 RPI run throughout the second period, started by Trnková in at the 8:07 mark to get the Engineers on the board.

Kaiser scored just minutes later on a wrist shot, pulling RPI within one at 11:41 on an assist from Morgan Skoda. Then as time ticked down in the middle frame, Larsen unleashed a shot from the blue line on the power play with just under 17 seconds to ply in the period to tie the game at 3-3.

The Big Green recaptured the lead at the 7:40 mark of the third period, with Cally Dixon scoring on an assist from Laura Fuoco and Donohue to push Dartmouth back ahead 4-3.

As time wound down once again, Trnková notched the game-tying tally with 1:32 to play in the third period on assists from Bailey and Wagner to tie up the game at 4-4. As the overtime period got underway, Hardy collected the puck and skated in the zone. With defenders all around, a wrist shot beat the glove side of Dartmouth goalie Eleanor Rogers to win the game for the Engineers.

RPI returns to action tomorrow, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. when they take on Harvard in Cambridge.
