Men’s Soccer Tallies Two in Fourth Straight Win

TROY, N.Y. – A goal and an assist from graduate student Brady Van Epps in a five-minute span in the second half helped give the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team to their fourth straight victory with a 2-1 triumph over Vassar College at ECAV Stadium Wednesday night.

Vassar opened the scoring in the opening half, scoring in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead. A ball played in corner kick pinballed in the air before Nolan Alexander headed the ball in for the goal.

The Brewers held the lead into the half, as RPI pushed the offense early in the second half. It paid off in the 52nd minute, as Van Epps broke free and was open in the middle of the 18-yard box. Gabe Terando found him, and Van Epps finished in the lower right corner of the net to equalize the score at 1-1.

Just five minutes later, Van Epps was on the giving end of a goal finding Julio Rodriguez, who found the twine behind Vassar goalie Vasilis Ganasoulis to give RPI the 2-1 lead in the 57th minute.

That opened up the RPI offense, as the Engineers hit two posts shortly after with chances to add to their lead. In the 67th minute, Vassar upped their offense and collected six straight shot opportunities – with three on frame that were all stopped by RPI goaltender Colin Such.

Both teams played the midfield over the final 10-minute stretch, as the Engineers held strong on defense for the win.

RPI returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. when the Engineers head to Ithaca to take on the Bombers in their regular season finale.
