Pair of Late Goals Sink Women's Hockey at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Despite holding a late 2-1 in the third period, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team saw Brown score a pair of goals late in the third period as the Engineers took a 3-2 loss on Friday night. With the loss, RPI has lost five in a row and falls to 6-6-3 overall and 2-5-0 in ECAC Hockey play.

Aylah Cioffi opened the scoring with a power play strike at the 12:45 mark of the first period, giving RPI an early 1-0 lead on assists from Sophia Jones and Andrea Trnkova. However, Brown responded quickly with a goal less than two minutes later as Jess Ciarrocchi collected a goal off a rebound to tie things up at 1-1. That score remained throughout the second period and into the third.

In the third, Nyah Philip scored the ice breaker at the 4:38 mark, pushing home a puck in the crease off a shot from MJ Alexander to give RPI a 2-1 lead. Bt the lead didn't hold up, as Brown scored back-to-back goals at the 11:52 mark as well as at the 13:54 mark of the third period. The first came off the stick of Jade Iginla in unassisted fashion, while Ellie Gauvin scored the game-winner on an assist from Cassidy Piersiak to take a 3-2 lead.

RPI pulled the goalie Amanda Rampado late to force an extra skater situation, but could not break through with the game-tying tally in the final minutes of regulation. Rampado finished the game with 21 saves, while Brown's Kaley Doyle hd 22 on the evening.

The Engineers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. when they take on the No. 11 Yale Bulldogs in New Haven.
