Women's Hoops Collects Records in Win Over SUNY Delhi

TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team put up 100 total points in a game for the first time since November 2017 as the Engineers defeated the SUNY Delhi Broncos by a final score of 100-27 Tuesday night. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Broncos fall to 0-6 overall.

The game marks only the second time in program history that the Engineers have reached the 100 point plateau. RPI last scored 100 points in a 100-46 victory over Southern Vermont College just over six years ago on November 17, 2017. That game took place in Bennington, as Tuesday's win marks the first 100 point game in Troy in program history. The 73-point win margin is the most in a game in program history since RPI defeated John Jay College at the Stevens Tip-Off Tournament in Hoboken, New Jersey on November 19, 2004. That game was an 88-13 route, marking a 75-point victory.

Both sides struggled to find the basket early on, as the score stood 9-6 in favor of the Engineers with 5:12 left in the first quarter. By the end of the first quarter, the Engineers opened up an 11 point lead at 17-6, holding Delhi scoreless the rest of the period. RPI found their groove in the second quarter, scoring a game-high 35 points in the frame to take a 52-12 lead at the half.

The Engineers continued to keep their offense flowing in the second half, outscoring the Broncos 48-15 in the second half to take the 73-point win. RPI held Delhi to just 19.6 percent from the field, including a 3-for-19 (15.8 percent) mark from behind the three-point line.

Leading the Engineers with 10 points apiece was Calissa Tyrell and Sydney Blaney, while Tyrell added a team-high seven rebounds. RPI totaled up 30 assists as a team, 21 steals, and 53 rebounds. All 18 players that saw the floor for the Engineers scored at least two points in the contest. For Delhi, Jennifer Roche-Jiminez and Miles Matthias each collected nine points to leads the Broncos in the scoring column.
