TROY, N.Y. – After putting up a 14 combined goals with Union on Friday night, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team only managed one on Saturday as they fell to the Garnet Chargers by a final score of 5-1 at Houston Field House. RPI falls to 1-5-0 and 1-1-0 in ECAC Hockey play, while Union improves to 3-4-0 and 1-1-0 in league play.

After playing a back and forth first 10 minutes of the game, Union found a streak of four goals – including three in the first period. John Prokop got the scoring started at the 11:56 mark, followed by a pair of goals from Brandon Buhr to close out the period at the 15:18 and 17:50 marks.

Ethan Benz collected a goal at the 13:10 mark of the second period, opening up a 4-0 Union lead before RPI broke through with a score at the 17:26 mark. Sophomore Sutter Muzzatti tucked home a shot on the back post on a pass from Ryan Brushett to the score to 4-1 after two periods. Jake Gagnon was awarded an assist as well on the Muzzatti goal.

Union scored their fifth and final goal less than three minutes into the third period, as Colby MacArthur scored with assists going to Jacob Jeannette and Cole Kodsi to move their lead to 5-1. RPI locked down the defense, as goaltender Carson Cherepak made some highlight saves to keep the Garnet Chargers at bay through the final horn.

RPI outshot Union 27-25 in shots on goal, and held Union to 1-for-6 on the power play.

The Engineers return to action next week on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. when they take on the Clarkson Golden Knights in Potsdam.
