DURHAM, N.H. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team held the No. 16 New Hampshire Wildcats to just one score but could not find one themselves as they were defeated 1-0 on the road Saturday evening. With the loss, RPI falls to 2-10-1 overall, while New Hampshire improves to 8-4-1 overall.
The Engineers held down the fort in the opening period, killing two penalties and holding the Wildcats to just 11 shots on net. RPI did the much of the same in the second period, as they matched New Hampshire in shots at 12, and were edged in shots on net 9-8 in the middle frame.
However with less than two minutes to play in the second period, New Hampshire scored the lone goal of the contest as Conor Lovett scored to put the Wildcats up 1-0. Assisting the play were Luis Lindner and Marty Lavins.
Despite the Wildcats turning on the offense in the third period outshooting the Engineers 22-6 (10-3 in shots on goal), goaltender
Brett Miller kept things close for RPI stopping everything his way. RPI was able to kill the lone penalty of the period, and kept the Wildcats off the board through the final horn.
Dovar Tinling led RPi with three shots on net, as Miller finished the day on the back end with 29 saves. Tyler Muszelik made 20 saves in between the pipes for New Hampshire in the win.
RPI returns to action next Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. when they play the first of two games against Minnesota State – Mankato at the Houston Field House next weekend.
