Women’s Hockey Edged by No. 6 Quinnipiac

Rampado Makes 40 Saves, Hildner Scores in Tight Contest With Bobcats

HAMDEN, CT – Senior goaltender Amanda Rampado collected 40 saves on the evening, as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team was edged out by the No. 6 Quinnipiac Bobcats by a final score of 2-1 at M&T Bank Arena Friday night. RPI falls to 9-21-1 overall and 4-14-1 in ECAC Hockey, while Quinnipiac improves to 26-5-0 and 16-3-0 in ECAC Hockey play.

Quinnipiac struck first in the final minute of the first period, as Zoe Boyd finished a one-timer from the left wing circle that sailed into the top right corner of the net. Boyd got a feed from Olivia Mobley deep in the zone from out behind the net. That gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead after the first period.

The Bobcats scored again late in the second period at the 16:08 mark, as Maya Labad collected the score. With Quinnipiac in an odd-player rush, Labad got a puck in the slot from the right wing boards from Alexa Hoskin. Labad then wristed a shot into the upper left corner of the net for the score, with Sadie Peart also earning an assist.

RPI cut the Bobcats lead to one with a goal at the 11:19 mark of the third period. Meg Hildner scored her second goal of the season on a loose puck out front of the net, finishing inside the right post on her back hand. Teeghan Dalby and Sabrina Beaudoin earned helpers on the tally.

Despite a late push from the Engineers and holding an empty net for nearly two minutes, RPI couldn't find an equalizer as Quinnipiac held on for the win.

Rampado's 40 saves marks the fourth time this season she's reached the plateau, and the second straight game she has reached the mark. She made 41 saves last Saturday against Yale.

The Engineers return to the ice tomorrow, Saturday, February 11 at Hobey Baker Arena when they take on Princeton at 3 p.m.
