Rampado Saves 59, WHKY Drops Season Finale

Engineers Fall to No. 3 Colgate as Rampado, Wagner Standout

TROY, N.Y. – Senior goaltender Amanda Rampado capped her senior season in style, making a career-high 59 saves as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team fell by a 6-1 final score to the No. 3 Colgate Raiders at the Houston Field House Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The Engineers end their season with a 9-24-1 overall record, and a 4-17-1 record in ECAC Hockey, while Colgate improves to 28-4-2 overall and a 18-3-1 record in league play.

The Raiders scored the opening goal less than two minutes into the first period, as Sammy Smigliani scored on the doorstep of Rampado to give Colgate the 1-0 lead. She was left open on the right wing side of the net, finishing off a pass from Dara Grieg. Katie Chan also received an assist on the play.

Colgate scored their second goal early in the second period as well, doubling their lead at the 3:54 mark. Kristyna Kaltounkova scored on a nifty move in front of the net on a pass from Neena Brick to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. The puck came toward the front of the net, and Kaltounkova spun to her forehand, tossing the puck by Rampado inside the left post.

Senior Marah Wagner made it a one-goal game once again late in the second period, as she connected with the twine with the Engineers on the penalty kill. As RPI looked to clear a penalty, Wagner found herself in a 2-on-1 situation with Ellie Kaiser cruising up the left wing with her. Wagner decided to take a shot, finding the upper left corner of the net to bring the Engineers back within a goal, 2-1.

However, it was all Colgate in the third period as the Raiders peppered Rampado with shots, scoring four times – including three times in the final five minutes of play. Kaltounkova scored her second of the day, while Sara Stewart, Chan, and Greig all tallied their first of the game.

Colgate's Hannah Murphy was strong in net, making 11 saves and allowing just the one goal. Wagner led the Engineers with four shots on net, while fellow senior Sarah Bukvic won 10 faceoffs.
