ITHACA, N.Y. - Ithaca College made more than 50 percent of its shots and pulled down 14 more rebounds and the No. 15 Bombers defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 73-39 in the semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament at Ben Light Gymnasium. Ithaca, the top seed, improves to 23-3 and earns the right to host Sunday's championship game against second-seeded Skidmore College.
RPI, which drops to 14-13, fell behind 14-4 after the first quarter and then was outscored by nine points in the second quarter to go into halftime down 37-16. Any chance for a comeback was doused in the third quarter when the Bombers made 11 of 19 shots (57.8%) while holding the Engineers to 2 of 14 (14.2%). Rensselaer bounced back in the fourth quarter to outscore Ithaca 16-9.
The Bombers had a dozen players score at least three points, led by Emily Dorn's 14. Annabella Yorio added 11 points and six rebounds and Cara Volpe scored 10 points. Lindsey Albertelli had a game-high nine rebounds, all off the defensive glass.
As a team, Ithaca connected on 29 of 56 attempts for a percentage of 51.8 while holding RPI to 22.6 percent on 14 of 62 shooting. The Engineers managed just one three point basket in 23 tries (4.3%).Â
Heather Converse scored nine points with six rebounds for RPI, which got five points from four different players.Â
