ROCHESTER, N.Y. -
Morgan Lee won the mile and
Nia Goddard captured the 5000 meters to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team to third place after day 1 of the Liberty League Championship Meet taking place at the Gordon Field House on the campus of RIT.
The Engineers are in third place in the eight school field with 41 points. Ithaca College leads with 106.5 and the University of Rochester is second with 82. St. Lawrence University is fourth with25 points.
A senior, Lee won the mile in a facility record time of 5:01.67 with the runner-up, August Stockman of Vassar College, finishing six seconds behind (5:07.24). Teammates
Olivia Pisacano (5:11.18) and
Jillian Lees (5:11.19) also scored, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
RPI also had three earn points in the 5k, ld by Goddard's victory in a time of 17:56.90. The senior out-legged a field of 20, including the runner-up's time of 18:06.72. Finishing seventh and eighth were Rensselaer's
Leah Goodloe (18:49.07) and
Eileen Beres (18:54.71).Â
Also on the track,
Katie Manning had a fifth place finish in the 400 meter dash (1:01.08) and the distance medley team of
Olivia Reid,
Summer Looney,
Emma Grace Ricketts, and
Claudia Wolf finished fourth in a time of 13:16.03.
Holly Lauzon had RPI's top throws finish with a hurl of 11:09 in the shot put. It came on her second attempt of the day.
The conference championship concludes on Saturday with action beginning at 11am.
