TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team is following the leadership of captain Garrett Volley and assistant captains Luke Murphy, Caleb Oswari, Devon Boyko, and Nick Porter head coach Scott Hackett-Dalgliesh has announced. The Engineers begin their season on February 18 when they travel to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

A graduate student who plays defense, Volley (Glenwood, MD / Our Lady of Good Counsel) is in his second season as a captain. In that role in 2022 he helped RPI to a 10-6 record, a bid into the Liberty League Tournament Semifinals, and an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament. Rensselaer was nationally-ranked for most of the season and enters into 2023 at No. 18 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Poll.

A starter in all 16 games as a senior, Volley had 38 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers, ranking third on team in both. He had at least one ground ball in every contest with two-or-more in nine games. He registered at least one caused turnover in nine games. Volley took six shots with his lone attempt on goal resulting in a man-down marker against Wesleyan University in an NCAA Tournament game.

He has started every game he has played in his career, beginning with 17 as a freshman when he finished with 29 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Volley had 12 ground balls and nine caused turnovers, which was first on the team, in six starts in 2020 before the season was ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He did not play in 2021 due to restrictions caused by the pandemic.

Volley is a Dean's Honor List student as a biomedical engineering major with minors in management and economics. He is a three-time conference All-Academic selection.

Rensselaer's four assistant captains all contributed significantly on the field a season ago. Murphy (Scituate, MA / Kent School) is an attack who tied for the team lead in points (34) and Oswari (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lenape), a defender, was All-Liberty League Second Team. A long-stick midfielder, Boyko (Zionsville, PA / Emmaus) was second on the Engineers in caused turnovers (16) and Porter (Quechee, VT / Hartford) saw action in every game as a midfielder.

Following its game against Coast Guard, which begins at 1pm, RPI makes its home debut on February 22 against Clark University. Face off is 4pm at East Campus Stadium.
