| By:
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Matt Lecky ran a 4:02.5 mile in the final leg and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) distance medley relay team finished in fifth place to earn All-America at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship. Joining the squad in earning All-America was junior Cory Kennedy, who ran eighth in the 5000 meters to earn hardware.

Davis Piercy opened the DMR with a time of 3:02.7 on the first leg, which covered 1200 meters. He was followed by Peter Cavanaugh's 48.9 in the 400 meters and Matthew Smalling's 1:55.7 in the 800. Lecky closed things out for the Engineers, who were only .43 behind Lynchburg for fourth (9:49.53).

Kennedy ran in a prestigious field - the three fastest 5k runners in Division III competed - and closed with his fastest 200 meters (32.56) to pull into eighth with a time of 14:19.96). He was four seconds in front of the ninth place finisher, Gunner Schlender of Wisconsin-Whitewater (14:23.20). The top two finishers eclipsed the previous meet record with Christian Patzka of Wisconsin-Whitewater winning in a time of 13:47.01.

Also competing for RPI on the first day of the two-day meet was Nia Goddard in the women's 5000 meters, the women's distance medley relay team, and James Zeolla in the pole vault. Goddard was 13th with a personal record time of 17:19.44, the DMR squad was 12th (12:14.23), and Zeolla finished 16th (4.55).

Action concludes on Saturday with Lecky and Morgan Lee competing in their respective 3000 meter runs.
