TROY, N.Y. - Previously recognized by the Liberty League, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Dom Black has now been honored by both D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) with post-season awards. The graduate student guard earned All-Region 3 Second Team by the former and All-District 3 Second Team by the latter.

Al All-Liberty League First Team choice and the Defensive Player of the Year - for the third straight time - Black (Arlington, MA / Arlington) led the Engineers in scoring (13.0 points per game), rebounding (7.0 per game), steals (50), assists (77), and minutes per game (32.9). He was second in field goal percentage at 47.4 percent (126 of 266) while also recording six blocked shots. 

A second-year captain, he started all 28 games and had at least 10 points in 22 contests with two over 20 points. He grabbed five-or-more rebounds in 22 games, including a season-high 11 once, and had multiple assists in 16 games. The six-time Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll selection registered at least two steals in 12 games. He was the catalyst to RPI being ranked No. 3 in Division III in scoring defense (57.1 points allowed per game).

Black, who was All-Conference First Team in 2021-22 and Second Team in 2019-20, is the first three-time year-end honoree in any category in Liberty League men's basketball history. He previously earned Defensive Player of the Year in 2019-20 and 2021-22 (the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

The program leader in career team victories with 81, Black finished with 1,159 points to rank 11th in school history.

The 2022-23 Engineers had a 19-9 record after advancing to the championship game of the Liberty League Tournament. As the No. 4 seed, they lost in overtime at No. 2 St. Lawrence University, 50-42.
