TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team was edged out for the third straight game, as they fell to the Hamilton College Continentals by a final score of 15-12 at ECAV Stadium Wednesday evening. RPI now moves to 3-4 overall on the season, while Hamilton improves to 2-2.
The Continentals scored the first goal of the game just over two minutes into the first quarter before RPI put up three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead at the 8:09 mark of the opening frame.
From that point, the Engineers struggled on offense as Hamilton scored eight goals in a row leading into the third quarter. A goal from Rowan Brumbaugh gave Hamilton a 9-3 lead less than two minutes into the third quarter, their largest lead of the game.
The Engineers began to punch back, as a goal from
Cooper Manzi – his third of the game – began a 5-0 run from RPI through the third quarter that brought them back within a goal after
Zach Swanson scored at the 5:33 mark to make it 9-8 Hamilton.
Just as RPI got back in the game, Hamilton scored four straight goals to close the third and begin the fourth quarter to bring the score back to 13-8 Continentals.
Both sides went back and fourth in the final frame, as the Engineers didn't get back within a trio of goals through the final horn.
Hamilton's Rowan Brumbaugh collected seven goals with five goals and two assists. Torben Wunderle and Thomas Healy each scored three goals piece as well, while goalkeeper Seamus Fagan made 16 saves.
Manzi finished with four goals and four points, while
Luke Murphy (1G, 2A) and
Tyler Ruffini (2G, 1 A) each finished with three points apiece.
Joseph Perry made 10 saves on the evening.
The Engineers return to action on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m. when they head to Poughkeepsie to take on Vassar in their first Liberty League action of the season.
