MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team continued their hot start to the season, collecting a double-digit win for the second straight game as the defeated Capital University by a final score of 15-5 at Rhodes College. With the win, RPI moves to 2-0 on the season.
RPI scored early and often, as goal number one came just 34 seconds into the game courtesy of
Ella Graff.
Lauren DeLeo backed that goal up 13 seconds later off the next draw control, giving RPI a 2-0 lead less than a minute in.
After Capital scored a goal on a player advantage to make it 2-1 with 10:57 to play in the first quarter, the Engineers tore off a 9-0 run until the halftime horn to take an 11-1 lead at the midway point.
Each side scored four goals apiece in the second half, with Graff scoring two goals and DeLeo also notching her fourth goal of the game as the Engineers took a 14-2 lead into the fourth. Capital outscored RPI 3-1 in the final 15 minutes, with RPI's lone goal coming in the final seconds of the fourth.
Graff and DeLeo led the team with four goals each, while Graff added two assists for a team-high six points. DeLeo also dished out an assist, while the trio of
Quinn Wollard,
Rylie Maready, and
Lisa Boehmer each scored two goals apiece. RPI sported three goaltenders on the game, with
Jenny Canfield getting the win while making three saves. Olivia Kim ball and
Julianna Lucas each made a save as well.
Grace Osborn led the Capital attack with two goals on the game. Dylan Smith, Luci Kanowsky, and Andi Henry each scored one goal apiece, while Emily Serafinchon made nine saves in 45 minutes of action in the loss.
The Engineers return to action on Wednesday, March 8 at 4 p.m. when RPI faces off against Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.
