Gerry Bushey was a team leader inspiring us to work hard, improve our skills and help motivate us when we faced tough challengers. He was always quick to praise us when we did well and advise us how to improve when we didn't.

With the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony coming up on Saturday, each of the inductees will be featured leading up to the event as a way to get to know them. Gerry Bushey ‘68 came to Manhasset, N.Y., and Cranwell Prep. in Massachusetts. A Navy ROTC cadet who graduated with a management degree, he went on to become a U.S. Naval officer before joining the family’s fuel oil business. He has since retired to Easton, Md.

To win, athletes must push their coaches and coaches must push their players in two, equally vital actions. Mr. Bushey met this dual challenge by being both a star athlete and an exceptional leader.
