CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes
Christine Mallette and
Emma McGuinn competed in the MIT Final Qualifier in attempts to earn entry into the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship that takes place on May 25-27 in Rochester, N.Y.
Mallette ran the 200 meters in a time of 25.65, which was second on the day behind Wheaton's Schyler Wyse, who ran a 25.42. Devin Hiltunen of Brandeis was third in 26.37. For Mallette, a sophomore, she was .24 off her personal best, which she clocked at the Liberty League Championship in early May.
McGuinn, a freshman, ran a 14.17 in the 100 Hurdles at the conference meet and ranks 19th in the nation with that time. At MIT, she had a 14.51, which was the third fastest behind Alison McDonough of Bridgewater State (14.05) and Bianca DelMaestro of Endicott (14.35).
The announcement of qualifiers for both the women's and men's national championships is expected on Sunday.
