EWING, N.J. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team continued their string of strong defense, collecting their second straight shutout as they defeated The College of New Jersey on the road by a final score of 5-0 Wednesday afternoon. The Engineers have now surrendered only one goal over their last four games, improving to 3-1-2 overall.
Josh Gaudiano scored the opening goal int the first half in the 38
th minute, finishing the lower right corner of the net on a pass from
Christian Lombardo for a 1-0 lead. Gaudiano struck again after the halfway point, scoring in the lower left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead in the 52
nd game.
Brady Van Epps,
Julio Rodriguez, and
Gianfranco Loli added on in the second half, extending the RPI lead to 5-0 by the 73
rd minute. Gaudiano assisted on the goal from Van Epps, while
Reggie Durden helped on the goal from Rodriguez. RPI collected 15 total shots in the game, with 10 in the second half.
Luke Pascarella had three shots for The College of New Jersey, with a pair on net. As a team, they collected six shots overall with three on net.
RPI returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 23 to kick off Liberty League action against St. Lawrence on the road in Canton. The opening kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
