TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team closed out their weekend in New England at Dartmouth on Saturday night, coming out with a 6-2 loss to the Big Green.
The Engineers surrendered the first two goals of the game in the first period, as Braiden Dorfman and Cooper Flinton each scored for Dartmouth. As the 14:41 mark rolled around, the Engineers struck for their first goal of the game from
John Beaton. A pass from
Brad McNeil found Beaton by the right wing circle, and he found the back of the net to cut the Dartmouth lead down to one.
In the second period, Dartmouth pulled away as they scored a pair of goals to make it 4-1 after two periods of play. Luke Haymes scored the third, while Dorfman added a second to his nightly resume. The Big Green pushed the offense in the third as well, as they scored another pair around a
John Evans goal for RPI at the 12:28 mark. A nice pass from
Sutter Muzzatti found Evans for the goal, as the goal made it 5-2 before Haymes scored his second goal if the night for the Big Green late in the period.
Brett Miller made 41 saves in net for the Engineers, while Cooper Black made 17 for Dartmouth in the win. Muzzatti was once again strong in the circle, going 10-for-18 in faceoffs.
RPI returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. when the Engineers take on Union at MVP Arena in downtown Albany for the next installment of the Mayor's Cup.
