ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team overcame a two-goal deficit to earn a 3-3 tie tonight at RIT.
Ellie Kaiser, Nina Christof, and Aylah Cioffi each provided goals for RPI, who received votes in this week's AHCA national rankings.
Trailing 3-1 late in the third period, the Engineers scored twice in the final four minutes of regulation to secure their point on the evening.
Christof began the comeback with a strike that featured assists from Morgann Skoda and Sophie Helgeson with 4:01 remaining.
Cioffi netted the equalizer two and a half minutes later with help from Sabrina Beaudoin and Sophie Helgeson.
Two first-period goals had put RIT ahead early before Kaiser tallied RPI's opening score with 3:27 left in the second. Kaiser used a feed from Natalie Tulchinsky to help RPI build some momentum going into the final 20 minutes.
Each side had power-play opportunities in the five-minute overtime, however the extra session concluded with the deadlock still in the place.
RIT was successful in the penalty shootout, as the hosts registered a 1-0 triumph following three penalty shots per side.
The two squads will conclude the two-game series tomorrow at 6:00 pm in Rochester.Â
