Women's Hoops Falls in Season Finale at St. Lawrence

Engineers Topped, Ending 2023-24 Season

TROY, N.Y. – Junior Siena Smith racked up 27 total points on Saturday afternoon, as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team ended their season with a hard-fought 65-51 loss at St. Lawrence.

RPI jumped out to a quick start, grabbing an 11-10 lead after a Smith layup just over the midway point of the first quarter. Both teams battled back-and-forth into the second quarter as the Saints continued to lead.

A three-pointer from Smith with 1:27 to play in the second quarter brought the Engineers back within one, as St. Lawrence clung to a 27-26 lead. The Saints then put up a small 5-0 run to end the first half, going up 32-26 at the break.

St. Lawrence pulled away in the second half, as they were able to get to the free throw line with more frequency than the Engineers – which included an 8-for-9 mark in the fourth quarter alone. In all, the Saints made 20 trips to the charity stripe to the seven for the Engineers on the game.

Despite a fourth quarter push and late three-pointer from senior Ahnalese Pearson, the Saints held on for the 65-51 win.

Backing up Smith's 27 points was a nine-point effort from Marley Mueller, while Smith and Hannah McGrath each snagged a team-high seven rebounds. Caelan McHarney led the scoring for St. Lawrence, tossing in 15 points on the afternoon.

The Engineers end their season with a 9-16 overall record, and a 6-12 mark in the Liberty League.
