Men's Hockey Topped by Dartmouth Friday Night

Goffredo Scores Lone Goal for Engineers Against Big Green

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team opened up their final regular season home stand of the 2023-24 season on Friday night, as they fell to the Dartmouth Big Green by a final score of 5-1 at the Houston Field House.

The Engineers saw the first goal for Dartmouth go into the net just 12 seconds into the first period, giving the Big Green a 1-0 lead. Tucker McRae took a wrist shot from the left wing that found the back of the net for the score. Dartmouth added to it at the 13:34 mark on the power play, as four seconds into the power play saw Cooper Flinton score on a one timer from the right wing side of the ice to make it 2-0 Dartmouth.

RPI scored the lone goal in the second period to make it a 2-1 game, as freshman Jimmy Goffredo scored on the power play as well. A pass from the blue line from Dovar Tinling found Goffredo on top of the left wing circle for a quick slap shot that sailed through into the net to cut the Dartmouth lead to just one.

However in the third period, the Big Green scored twice more before an empty net goal made it a three-goal period for Dartmouth. Luke Haymes and Eric Charpentier each scored at the 5:14 and 7:05 marks of the third period to quickly make it 4-1 Dartmouth before Flinton scored the empty net tally at 17:37 to seal the fifth and final goal of the night for the Big Green.

Cooper Black made 26 saves in net for Dartmouth in the win, while Jack Watson made 27 saves in the loss for RPI.

The Engineers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Harvard at the Houston Field House for the final regular season home game and Senior Night.
